Boarders wake up to the chirping of birds and Peacocks sightings on the Lush 265 Acre Barnes Campus situated on a hill. From the Rising Bell at 5.15a.m to Lights Out at 9.30p.m all the Boarders along with their Matrons, Wardens and Mistresses go through the day as one big family. This is the very core of Barnes Boarding- family ambiance.
Barnes is a second home for its boarding students. After joining a dormitory, the students are encouraged to create their own close-knit community. There are separate buildings which house the Girls, Junior Boys and Senior Boys. All boarders are comfortably accommodated in spacious dormitories and have a personal bed, study table and a cupboard. All dormitories are provided with attached shower rooms. These have been purpose-built to provide premium, student-friendly accommodation and have been decorated to create a homely-feel. There is a designated study hall with individual desks for each student. The students are housed class-wise in dormitories which have their own recreation areas and TV facilities.
The boarding accommodation aims at achieving an effective balance between privacy for the individual and the development of a strong sense of community. Each boarding house is carefully supervised by an experienced Warden/ House Mistress. They ensure that new students settle in easily. The Matron is another important member of the Boarding House Community who supports the Boarders throughout their stay at Barnes. She heads the House Keeping team, monitors the health of the students with the help of a team of fully qualified Nurses who reside on campus. There are excellent facilities like two Infirmaries with Residential Nurses and on call Doctors.
Residential Staff (Teachers) hold Remedial Classes for Boarders who require extra attention in Academics. A monthly written feedback is given to the Jr. School Supervisor and Vice Principal.
The Vice-Principal heads a team of tutors who are responsible for providing academic guidance to their tutees. All members of teaching staff are attached as Tutors. They help identify, broaden and develop their tutees' talents and interests, and give advice about academic choices and decisions.
It is hard to overstate the strength that this tutorial system gives to Barnes. Tutors, as well Wardens and House Mistresses, act as an all-important link between parents and school. In the Junior School a similar role for each student is performed by the classroom teacher, and every effort is made to develop this three-way relationship between teachers, students and parents.
