With an objective to inculcate in the students, the skill and the desire to spell words with precision and confidence, the junior school section of Barnes School and Junior College organized their annual Spell Well Competition on Friday, January 24, 2020 in Evans Hall.
The Vice-Principal, Mr. Ian Boye, and the Junior School Supervisor, Mrs. Leona Kingsellers graced the event with their presence.
The weekly class wise spelling tests held throughout the academic session for classes 1 to 4 have improved the students’ spelling ability to such an extent that it was a herculean task to pick the finalists.
It was only after multiple tie-breakers that the teams were finalized.
The competition consisted of five rounds in all, the visual round, jumbled words, monuments, opposites and finally the rapid-fire round. The Spell masters for the day were Ms.Juella Fernandes and Mrs. Gwendolyn Pereira. They were provided with valuable guidance and assistance from their supervisor, Mrs. Leona Kingsellers.
All participants received certificates for their efforts, which were handed to them by the Vice- Principal, Mr. Boye.
The following were the participants:
Blue House – Rajit Nadar, Anubha Kumari, Ethan Gardener, and Arjun Prabhu.
Green House – Mann lunkad, Ramanand, Hitansh Makhija, and Harshvardhan Singh.
Red House – Swami Borade, Eldon Abraham, Shriraj Thakre and Saransh Sinha.
Yellow House – Sujaan Sharma, Daniel Nelson, Soumya Sharma, and Daksh Mewani.
It was an exciting event leading to the Red House as the winners of the competition.
A video clip on ‘Spelling Bee’ was also shown to the audience after the competition.
