Students of Barnes, Shreeniket Sachin Dhande (X B), Samyak Gopal Shinde (VII C) and Ricky Cox (X A), had the privilege of joining a team of well-established doctors and engineers, to support Sharadashram Foundation, Pune, in its vision, ‘Neglected to be Elected’.
The mission, aptly named ‘Reaching at each dark Place with Solar Lantern’, aims not only to empower volunteers from neglected rural areas to assemble, maintain and repair solar lamps on their own, but also creates opportunities for self-employment and promotes self-reliance.
In addition to distributing solar lanterns and training volunteers in tribal regions such as Vasti, at Jawhar and Mokhada, near Nasik, our students helped supply the same to the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) 12 Battalion in 12 states across India, conducted training workshops in places hit by the Nisarga Cyclone in Maharashtra, and for teachers and staff of Ambatha cluster of schools in the Surgana Block of Nasik District.
